1. What we collect, and when
When you subscribe to our updates: your email address, and your name if you provide it. You receive a confirmation email — we don't add you to the list until you click the confirmation link (double opt-in).
When you take the Alignment quiz: your answers to the quiz questions, your top-issue selection if you provide one, and your email address if you provide one. Email is optional; the quiz works without it.
When you write to us through the Contact form: your name, email, the category of inquiry, and the contents of your message.
When you make a donation: your name, email, billing ZIP, donation amount, and the campaign you're donating to. Your card number is processed by Stripe; we never see it and never store it.
When you vote agree/disagree on a Position: your choice is stored in your browser's local storage. If you choose to leave an email when expressing disagreement (it's optional), we receive that too along with your written reasons.
Automatically, when you visit the site: server logs record your IP address and the pages you requested, retained for 90 days. We use a privacy-respecting analytics tool that hashes visitor identifiers with a salt that rotates daily — meaning no individual is trackable across days.
2. What we don't collect
- We use no tracking cookies. Only essential cookies (Django session, CSRF) are set, and only when you're submitting a form.
- We never embed third-party advertising or tracking pixels.
- We don't load social-media buttons that report your visit back to those platforms.
- We have no Facebook Pixel, no Google Analytics, no LinkedIn Insight, no TikTok pixel.
3. How we use what we collect
- To deliver the newsletter you subscribed to. Email delivery runs through Postmark.
- To process and acknowledge your donations. Card processing runs through Stripe.
- To respond to messages you've sent us.
- To aggregate Alignment quiz results. We publish aggregate distributions of which positions resonate with quiz-takers, anonymized. Individual answers are not published.
- To track which positions are working. Agree/disagree votes and disagreement reasons inform position revisions.
- To run the site itself. Server logs help us debug, secure, and improve the site.
We never sell, rent, or share your information with marketers. We don't do "data partnerships." We don't enrich our records by buying lists. The list of people receiving emails from us is the list of people who asked to receive them.
4. Who else sees your data
Three services are essential to running the site, and each sees a narrow slice of what you give us:
- Postmark — delivers our emails. Sees: your email address and the messages we send you. Postmark privacy policy.
- Stripe — processes your donation. Sees: your name, email, billing ZIP, card details (we never see card details). Stripe privacy policy.
- I Want Your Service — analytics. Sees: hashed identifiers that rotate daily plus basic page-view data. No personal data ever leaves the site.
If we add a new third party, we update this page and tell newsletter subscribers what's changed.
5. How long we keep things
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Alignment quiz submissions: indefinitely as anonymized aggregate. Identifying information (email if provided) is removed after one year of no further interaction.
- Contact messages: retained for two years after the conversation ends.
- Donation records: seven years (financial-regulation requirement).
- Server logs: 90 days.
6. What you can do
You can:
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Request a copy of everything we have on you. Email privacy@intelligent-party.org and we'll send it within 30 days.
- Request correction or deletion of anything we have on you. Same address. We'll honor reasonable requests within 30 days for your subscriber profile, contact messages, and alignment quiz submissions. Donation records are an exception: political-money records are retained as a matter of party policy and legal compliance — political money is held separately, on the record, accountable. They appear in any export you request, but they are not subject to deletion.
- Opt out of any future use of your data for any purpose by emailing the same address. We'll comply.
If you're a resident of California, the EU, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (CCPA, GDPR, etc.), those rights apply — contact privacy@intelligent-party.org to exercise them. We treat all reasonable requests the same way regardless of jurisdiction.
7. Children
We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact privacy@intelligent-party.org and we'll delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard practices: HTTPS for all traffic, encrypted database storage, rate-limited login attempts, and Argon2 password hashing for any administrative accounts. We can't guarantee perfect security, but we take it seriously and tell you immediately if something goes wrong.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we update the date at the top and notify newsletter subscribers in the next regular email. Material changes include adding new third parties, expanding data collection, or weakening user rights.
